Honoree: Vern Demars

Honored by: Orange Police Department

Cause Area: Law Enforcement & Public Safety

Vern has been a member of the Orange Police Department since May 2012. Vern is an invaluable member of our department who can be relied upon whenever he is needed. He is part of the City of Orange Amateur Radio (COAR) team which assists with auxiliary emergency communications. One of the biggest events he assists with is supporting the communication needs of the OPD team during the Baker-2-Vegas relay each year. He also has helped with the Kids Print Program, the Child DNA Service, Vacation and Code Enforcement Checks, and our Detective Bureau inspecting the “bait” bicycles and ensuring they are correctly functioning. Vern is a pleasure to work with and his easygoing personality, combined with his willingness to help as needed, makes him an ideal volunteer. He enjoys volunteering because he has met and worked with like minded people who enjoy volunteer work. Also, he has learned the inside workings of the police department. Plus, the amateur radio group has people with different skill levels who are always willing to share their knowledge. The Orange Police Department would like to recognize and thank Vern for all his hard work and dedication!

Sue is a pleasure to work with and always brings fun to the projects she helps with. She enjoys the camaraderie with her fellow volunteers and the police personnel. It has been a rewarding experience for her to learn about the various departments and responsibilities within the PD, which has given her an opportunity to expand her knowledge of criminal justice. Prior to volunteering, Marty never realized how much volunteering meant to the public. For her, it’s a great feeling to be able to give back.
