Honoree: Chris Reyes
Honored by: Cox Communications
Chris is the classic Do-It-Yourselfer (DIYer) with a background in technology. He spends a lot of his free time supporting the Maker movement and sharing his knowledge of the Internet of Things. In fact, he is a part of a creative group of Cox DIYers that includes an R2D2 maker and BBQ hacks. In 2014, Chris produced and organized the Orange County Mini-Maker Faire that showcased 200 hobbyist booths and activities. Chris has been instrumental in helping Cox promote its message of enabling innovation. At the two-day San Diego Maker Faire in early October he helped build more than 700 “Gigablast”-branded rockets. He continues to identify STEM (and STEAM) and event opportunities to highlight Cox’s latest products and its people and consult on booth activities like a laser maze and squishy circuits and serve as a resource in explaining network technology. Whether it’s trying to figure out how to repurpose a remote control as a game controller or volunteering to build Nerdy Derby cars at the Cox booth, you’ll probably find Chris with his 10-year-old son Xavier teaching others to be tinkerers. We truly appreciate the efforts Chris has made at Cox as well as in the community!
