Five years ago, Mark Kerr and Peter Shaw called the City of San Clemente saying they wanted to help in hunger relief. The city told them about Family Assistance Ministries.  Before they could contact Family Assistance Ministries, they saw our truck drive by.They followed the truck to our SC Resource Center on their mopeds. Mark and Peter have faithfully provided a pallet of food and goods every month for the past 5 years! That’s life changing!!!

Western Digital employees are always among the first to step foward to help others. Whether it is board service, cleaning up a beach, providing lunch for veterans, painting a playground, or tutoring a child, our team members are there.

During this past year, oTeam Western Digital4ur employees volunteeered each Tuesday night in January to assist the homeless at the emergency armory shelters for the homeless. To ensure that the holidays were a little brighter for children and their financially-struggling families, our employees purchased hundreds of toys and household items– using their own funds. Then, with the help of the Western Digital Foundation, our employees sponsored a holiday dinner, with all the trimmings and Santa, for these grateful families!

Education, especially the STEM disciplines, is important to our employees. Many Western DigTeam Western Digital5ital engineers are willing to tutor and advise students. Recently, our volunteers were tapped to play an integral role in the develop of the STEM badge for the Girl Scouts in OC. Who knows, one of these young girls may one day be a WD engineer!

Each February, our volunteers lead our signature “Pin It’ drive, raising money for a healthcare related nonprofit. By collecting donations in exchange for lapel heart pins, our volunteers raised $10,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association last year. These grassroots projects are all volunteer driven.

Team Western Digital3Providing diapers and other baby essentials is an annual Springtime event at our corporate headquarters in Irvine. And, each summer, the halls of WD beco
me collection spots for hundreds of backpacks and school supplies, all of which are donated to students in need.

No matter the season, there is always some type of volunteer activity at WD. We couldn’t do it without our dedicated employees. At WDC – We Drive Change!

Ed Presnillo

Ed is someone who is truly passionate about giving back and bringing awareness to Americans with diabetes. Being a diabetic himself, he knows the value of helping to improve the lives of all people affected by this disease. Each year, you can see Ed bringing our employees together to support him in the “Tour De Cure” in which he cycles a great distance to stop diabetes. Many of our employees eagerly await his famous annual Pork Ribs BBQ which he uses to help fundraise for his cause. Being able to bring our employees together and rally against a great cause is pretty special, and so is Ed. Thank you for all you do!

Chris is the classic Do-It-Yourselfer (DIYer) with a background in technology. He spends a lot of his free time supporting the Maker movement and sharing his knowledge of the Internet of Things. In fact, he is a part of a creative group of Cox DIYers that includes an R2D2 maker and BBQ hacks. In 2014, Chris produced and organized the Orange County Mini-Maker Faire that showcased 200 hobbyist booths and activities. Chris has been instrumental in helping Cox proReyes_Chris.Cox2mote its message of enabling innovation. At the two-day San Diego Maker Faire in early October he helped build more than 700 “Gigablast”-branded rockets. He continues to identify STEM (and STEAM) and event opportunities to highlight Cox’s latest products and its people and consult on booth activities like a laser maze and squishy circuits and serve as a resource in explaining network technology. Whether it’s trying to figure out how to repurpose a remote control as a game controller or volunteering to build Nerdy Derby cars at the Cox booth, you’ll probably find Chris with his 10-year-old son Xavier teaching others to be tinkerers. We truly appreciate the efforts Chris has made at Cox as well as in the community!

The compassion Gary shows to the people and dogs he serves is an inspiration for us all. I’ve noticed how he treats everyone with respect and kindness, no matter what the situation is. He is always willing to help and is the kind of person that you want on your team. For several years now, he has supported a nonprofit called “The Little Red Dog” who rescue dogs from kill shelters and find them loving, Forever homes. I appreciate that Gary leads by example and continuously shows his young daughter that giving back is part of their lives. The appreciation for all Gary does has not gone unnoticed, we are so fortunate to have him serve on the Cox Cares Board! Thank you Gary for who you are, and all you do!
